Christmas and New Year Licensing Hours

We have received numerous enquiries from clients asking about the opening hours over the Christmas and New Year period in Northern Ireland.

Christmas Eve

For pubs, the hours are 12.30pm to 10pm. If you have additional hours (Article 44) then this is extended to 12 midnight. Thirty minutes drinking up time is allowed.

Off-licences in pubs can open from 10am to 10pm and off-licences in shops can open from 10am to 10pm.

Christmas Day

Pubs can open from 10am to 10pm with thirty minutes drinking up time allowed. There are no additional hours.

Off-licences cannot open.

Boxing Day

Pubs can open from 11.30am to 11pm or 1am if they have additional hours. Thirty minutes drinking up time is permitted.

Off-licences in pubs can open from 11.30am to 11pm and off-licences in shops from 8am to 11pm.

New Year’s Eve

Pubs can open from 11.30am to 11pm. If they have additional hours they can open to 1am (note the extra hour compared to usual Sunday opening). Thirty minutes drinking up time is allowed.

Off-licences in pubs can open from 12.30pm to 10pm and off-licences in shops from 10am to 10pm.

New Year’s Day

Pubs can open from 11.30am to 11pm or 1am of they have additional hours. Thirty minutes drinking up time is allowed.

Off-licences in pubs can open from 11.30am to 11pm and off-licences in shops from 8am to 11pm
